Primary Blog/Love/Why Connecting with Other Business Owners is the Key to Your Success

The Power of Mastermind Groups

The concept of a mastermind group was introduced by Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich. He explains that when two minds come together, they create a 'mastermind'—a collective intelligence that is greater than the sum of its parts.

  • By collaborating, business owners share knowledge, strategies, and experiences.
  • Even though deep work is often done alone, brainstorming with others can spark innovation and motivation.
  • This collective wisdom leads to new ideas, increased creativity, and better problem-solving.

Napoleon Hill also emphasizes the importance of surrounding yourself with people who share similar goals and aspirations. When you connect with high-achieving individuals, you naturally elevate your own ambitions and strategies.

Surround Yourself with Success

Many psychological studies show that we tend to achieve more simply by being around other successful people.

  • If you want to level up, aim to be the least experienced person in the room.
  • Your business dreams and strategies will evolve just by interacting with those who have already reached where you want to go.
  • Surrounding yourself with high achievers shifts your mindset, pushes your limits, and helps you grow faster.

How I Have Leveraged Business Connections for Growth

Building relationships with other business owners has transformed my journey. Here are some ways I’ve done it:

  • Women Business Owners of North Florida – I joined this group to learn from experienced entrepreneurs who have built multiple businesses.
  • Association for Talent and Development – Being part of professional organizations helps me develop my skills and stay inspired.
  • Erica Allgood – We connected through both of the above organizations and bonded over our shared background in training. I even recommended her for the Women Business Owners 2025 Fearless Leadership - Spring Signature Event next week because I knew what she could offer!
  • Emme Devonish – As an executive coach, she and I have deep conversations about strategy and the local coaching scene.
  • Navenka Gabrielson – We met through a networking event, realized we serve similar clients, and decided to organize an all-day event together to help women live better, more holistic lives. (poster on the right)

These relationships have not only enriched my business but also my personal growth and fulfillment.

Entrepreneurship Doesn’t Have to Be Lonely

Starting and running a business can often feel isolating, but it doesn’t have to be. While non-entrepreneur friends and family may be supportive, they often don’t understand the specific challenges business owners face.

  • Business owners get it—they’ve been through similar struggles and can offer practical advice.
  • They can provide solutions to challenges you’re facing.
  • They help normalize setbacks, so you don’t feel like you’re alone in your journey.

Your Network is Your Best Source of Leads and Collaborations

Most of the services I’ve purchased for my business have come through networking and collaborations. For example:

  • I decided to leave teaching after hearing Angela Watson’s Truth for Teacher interview with Daphne Gomez, the Teacher Career Coach.
  • Sam Vanderweilen introduced me to Louise Henry, and I ended up purchasing courses from both of them.
  • I discovered Amy Porterfield through an interview she did on The Good Life Project and later bought one of her courses.-

Just as I bought from people who collaborated with people I was listening to, you can expand your audience by collaborating with other business owners. These collaborations introduce you to new customers and clients.

Collaboration Over Competition

You don’t need to view others in your industry as competitors. In fact, some of the most successful business owners collaborate with people offering similar services. A great example is Amy Porterfield, Jasmine Star, and Jenna Kutcher:

  • They all provide courses on online business growth.
  • They have overlapping audiences of female entrepreneurs.
  • Instead of competing, they promote each other’s content, courses, and services.
  • As a result, they all grow together.

You can apply this same mindset to your business. Instead of seeing similar business owners as threats, explore ways to collaborate and expand your reach.

Action Steps to Build Your Network

If you want to grow your business and increase your opportunities, start intentionally expanding your network. Here’s how:

  • Join a Business Group – Find a professional organization or mastermind group that aligns with your business goals.
  • Get Involved – Commit to attending meetings, engaging in discussions, and building real relationships.
  • Identify Like-Minded Entrepreneurs – Connect with business owners who serve a similar audience.
  • Create a Small Collaboration – Some simple ways to collaborate include: Cross-promoting on social media, Hosting a webinar together, Appearing on each other’s podcasts, Guest writing a newsletter.
  • Support and Share – Promote and recommend your business connections just as they will do for you.

By actively connecting with other business owners, you’ll create more opportunities, find greater inspiration, and accelerate your business success. Your next big breakthrough could come from a single conversation—so start expanding your network today!
